Should I just plead guilty and request the fine to be lowered? This is my first ticket ever!

Extend it as long as you can and then file a trial by declaration and hope he has forgotten most of the details, and decides not to write back
I think you can extend it for 60 days, and then file a trial by declaration. If you lose that, then you can still fight it in court. It's like getting 2 chances.

dont mean to thread jack here, but i got pulled friday night on the 14 fwy going to mammoth. The officer was going in the other direction at whatever speed she was doing and turned to pull me over. I assume no radar and didnt ask to see one. She wrote approximate speed 90+ as my speed. Any advice??

Sorry for putting this here Macy, but i know YOUR thread will get views and replies 100 times more than any one a guy would post

so if i go to traffic school, do I still pay the fine or how does that work? and should I go to traffic school BEFORE my court appearance date to make myself look like more of an earnest citizen?

i got a ticket @ 80 recently, so i doubt you can get away with 90 but definitely do traffic school, so at least insurance won't go up...

oh yeah...you can request for extentions...and they usually forget about the incident after awhile.

I'm not sure there's a 'valid' excuse for speeding. The only ones are emergencies - i.e., going to the hospital ER. Short of that, I don't think there's legally approved reason for speeding. Sorry amiga, looks like you might have to eat this one, unless you want to play the extension game.

really depends on the situation and how you handled things while you were getting the ticket. admitting it and receiving a ticket would just lead to extension on a court date, then go to court and hoping for the best and a lesser amount and if the judge is nice about things, I'm sure he'll give you a break with traffic school (works better if you are a student). If you didn't agree with what the officer was giving you then you actually might have a fighting chance with whatever legitimate reason one of these guys will give you since I'm bad at excuses =) anyways if thats the case than you're not guilty yet or never have been. goodluck!

but what should I say??? what's a valid excuse?
You still have to pay the ticket. At 90 MPH its very hard to win your case. Anytime you qualify for traffic school you should really just pay the fine and take the class. Going to court you waste about 2 days. If you do the written and lose I don't think they will give you the traffic school option. Then you will have to go to court to try to ask for it which is a hassle. I don't know if going 20+ will qualify you for traffic school or not i've never gone over 20+, well at least gotten a ticket for it.
