Horrible Motorcycle Crash today..witness :(

If CA rolled back its helmet law tomorrow I'd still wear my lid (and same deal for seatbelt). BUT... I rode for over ten years in CA without a helmet back when it was legal (and never wore my seatbelt). I "get" the attraction and I feel we should have the choice.
Is it more dangerous? Sure, no question. But so is a convertible car versus a hard-top (hint hint). We should have the freedom to be stupid. And don't give me the cost-to-society argument. It is a LOT cheaper to sponge dead helmetless guys off the road than to rehab the smarter ones who wear helmets and live. The zone for weird brain damage versus death is very narrow. We mostly die on head impacts.
Most car fatalities are head injuries. MANY of those fatalities, FAR more in total than bike fatalities, would be prevented by wearing a helmet in your car. Should we be forced on that too? If you believe in m/c helmet laws, why not?
