^ Shut your car off = no probable cause.
End of story assuming you're too low for em to check or whatever.

I hate this topic-- it scares me haha. I've never actually heard first-hand of someone paying a $1,000 for no cat-- only people saying "I've heard it's $1,000." I recently got pulled over for modified exhaust, and got out of it pretty easily, but I'm still scared. He pulled up behind me at a light, and I got to 4th gear then he pulled me over.
And cops aren't all that knowledgeable in the modified cars game... Story time
My friend Dan and I were driving around in Laguna Beach... He drives an Vortech supercharged E46... We got pulled over 'cause of the whine from his supercharger. Cop told him to pop the hood-- he couldn't figure out how to make it stay up, 'cause it was carbon fiber (first funny thing that happened)
So he starts poking around, then goes back to the window and says "I'm going to have to call our guy who specializes in modified cars."
We wait for "Dusty, the car guy;" 5 minutes later he arrives, pops the hood, looks around with his flashlight, then looks at his partners and says (loudly)
"Uhh, I don't know what any of this shit is... The class I took only taught me about Mitsubishis and Hondas..." I guess since they couldn't figure it out, so they let us go. Win.

Just like how cops know even if you have a basic looking apexi muffler or when they check under the hood for anything aftermarket on someones car, as an exmaple. They still know its upgraded because they are trained for those things.
My friend studied Spanish for 6 years and doesn't speak a word of it....
Point being, training and knowing are two different things.
