Default Help w/ a noise coming from rear drivers side wheel

Hi guys,

I’m having an issue on my AP1 that I was hoping some of you may be able to help me diagnose the cause.

For a while now, my driver side rear brakes weren’t properly grabbing, I noticed that the pads weren’t fully pressing against the rotor (pic below) and it would make a slight grinding noise only when coming to a stop. A mechanic suggested I change the pads, which I did but it didn’t fix anything.

Another mechanic said that it might be the rotor, but recently I started hearing a noise even when driving on the freeway with my windows down.

Do you guys think it’s the rotor? Or maybe the wheel bearing or axle or something else? That area of the car was slightly damaged when I spun out in the heavy rain and the wheel hit a curb a few years ago but the shop supposedly repaired everything.

Any ideas? I’m down to take it to anyone who’s willing to help’s house or something and take them for a ride so they could hear/see it. I just wanted to identify the cause before I waste more money replacing the wrong things. Thanks guys and sorry for the long post!

Did you turn the rotors before you put on new pads? Its probably the wheel bearing or hub if its making noise while driving.

Replace the rotor both left AND right together and get new pads. For sure it's running wrong, if the sound persists post here again. Wheel bearing is more of a creaking sound than a whine unless its very bad.

Either way fix your brakes first and do both sides at once.

I don't suggest turning rotors, they just get messed up again and they're so cheap you should just replace them instead these days.

There is no little stone or anything lodged in there, is there?

I've seen this before. I would take the pads off and make sure they seat properly when you re-install. GL!

^ Yea looks incorrect but at this point probably the rotor and pads are worn wrong so that's why I said buy new pads and rotors for both left and right sides.

^ That sounds exactly like the wheel bearing.

From the picture, it doesn't look like the pad is touching the rotor all the way.
