Default HELP with Head Removal

I am asking for help in removing and re-installing my cylinder head, after it comes back from the head shop.

My compression test came back 180, 150, 180, and 220, so I am suspecting some bent valves.

The price quotes I am getting at local shops is $600 to remove the head and install it after it comes back from the head shop.

I can't afford this expense right now, so I am going to download the Helm's manual and try to remove/install the head myself.

If there is anyone that can help guide me through removal and installation of the head, or do this for me at a lower price, I would appreciate it.

I would also need to inspect the cylinder block and shortblock for any damage as well, so if you know how to inspect for damage, that would be great.

Thanks,

Jeff

Your cheapest bet is to find a USED engine and pop it in. To restore a head cost money, machine, labor. Look hard, there are a few for 2G, plus 600 labor.

If you have block damage, it'll cost ALOT more....

thanks for the link.

I don't need a new head. The head repair will only cost $250, I already got a quote from Joe Alaniz.

The cost issue for me is the removal and installation of the head will run my $600, so I am going to try to do it myself, to save this $600.

What I will need is HELP or GUIDANCE to remove my head, since I have never done it before, or I will pay someone to remove and re-install the head if they can give me a better deal than $600.

BC, a used engine is already out of my budget. Repairing my head will cost me $1G, but I am trying to save on the head removal/install labor to bring the cost down to <$500.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks,

Jeff

Did you do a leak down test as well. Are you sure that you have bent valves and the rings aren't shot? Make sure that the valves are bent, or else you're going to have to take out the whole motor later.

I've never seen a used F20C for $2000. The cheapest I've seen them is about $3000. And there not that easy to just "pop in"

If your head is good you should just rebuild it.

Seems like fair price, it will get you in the road the fastest, you can then send your head to be rebuilt and sell it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Supertech will be doing the leakdown test as soon as I make an appointment with him. This will be to determine if there is any damage to the short block, cylinder block, and/or the cylinder heads.

It is pretty safe to assume that there is damage to the cylinder head, so I will have the head sent off to Portflow as soon as it is removed.

NFRS2kSi, I have sent you a PM with my contact information.

If there is anyone else that can help with the head removal since this will be my first time, please let me know. I am looking for help and guidance, OR I will pay you to do it if it is considerably less than $600. The only work I've ever done on my car is changint he fluids and brake pads.

Thanks,

Jeff

Kinda off topic, but our compression is supposed to be 200psi for each cylinder, correct?
