"He made a choice not to give up," Schmidt said.

He refused to pull over, and police chased him at 60 to 70 mph until the man crashed his car into a vehicle stopped at a traffic jam between Brookhurst and Euclid streets just after midnight, Schmidt said.

"He gets out and takes cover behind a second vehicle," Schmidt said. "He doesn't try to run. At that point we have officers and the suspect engaging in a gunbattle," Schmidt said.

The officers shot back and he was killed on the freeway, Schmidt said.

A woman in another car was shot twice in the upper body. She was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and is expected to be released today.

"We're not sure whose bullet hit her," Schmidt said.
Isn't it kind of reckless to have a Western style shootout at the OK Corral with all those people around????????

Who shot first??????

ehh.... whats a few innocent dead people matter? The important thing is those cops got to F@#$IN shoot someone!!! AWESOME!!!

I bet the stray bullets were from the P.D. if it wasn't I think it would have been noted otherwise immediately. Just my guess there though.

You can never win with a shot out with the cops, don't people know. Cops never admit that they accidentally hit by standers.

I think the cops should shoot more often. People shoot at the cops because it's common knowledge that they can't shoot all the time. Everyone wants to complain when police bullets start flying, but then when crime does get out of hand they complain that the police don't do anything. Give them a freaking break and let them do their job.
