""We thought it was a traffic accident until, like, 30 cop cars came, coming on my left-hand, right-hand sides," said Isileli Vunileva, who witnessed the incident. "Then once it broke, everyone jumped up and then bam -- everybody started shooting, and I heard at least six or seven round.""

"The man exchanged fire with at least two Anaheim police officers and was later declared dead at the scene, he said.
A woman was shot and wounded during the battle and was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange, Schmidt said. Authorities said she was expected to survive and may be released from the hospital later today."

"He made a choice not to give up," Schmidt said.
He refused to pull over, and police chased him at 60 to 70 mph until the man crashed his car into a vehicle stopped at a traffic jam between Brookhurst and Euclid streets just after midnight, Schmidt said.
"He gets out and takes cover behind a second vehicle," Schmidt said. "He doesn't try to run. At that point we have officers and the suspect engaging in a gunbattle," Schmidt said.
The officers shot back and he was killed on the freeway, Schmidt said.
A woman in another car was shot twice in the upper body. She was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and is expected to be released today.
"We're not sure whose bullet hit her," Schmidt said.
