Default Got a RED LIGHT ticket and caught by a COP

After dropping my girlfriend off at home, I made a mistake by gunning my throttle to pass a yellow light. Turns out, it wasn't a good idea. There happened to be a cop at that intersection and hence, I got pulled over.

Wonderful. I'm a safe driver and i never gun a yellow.. but that night, i was tired and i wanted to get home quickly.

For my dad (he has a heavy foot), i fought all his tickets via TRIAL BY WRITTEN DECLARATION, and won.

However, fighting a red light for myself seems a bit hard. By the time I gunned my throttle when I saw it yellow, the light turned red right afterwards, hence the cop citing me.

I know i know.. this is DANGEROUS and it only takes one time to cause an accident. But i'd appreciate any insight.

I gotta pay my fine by tomorrow so i need to make a decision.

pay + traffic school? Or fight it?

"I didn't think I could safely stop in time officer".

You just have to enter it while yellow. You did that yes? So that should be it. Fight this.

How long was the yellow before it went to red? The duration is based on the speed limit of the street, or so I was told....What is the speed limit there?

Maybe you can claim a fast yellow....

Sometimes this is true. Also the size of intersection I believe.

I believe this is true but the yellow lights every where (in CA I believe) have to last a minimum of 3 seconds.

Let me know if you need help fighting the ticket via Trial by Declaration. I was fortunate enough to have a lawyer friend fight mine with a 200 page case and won. The gist of your argument will be that the contract for the cameras implemented by the private company for the city is somewhat illegal and is there solely for the purpose of making money, not for public safety.
