Default Got laid off

Ok it's my turn! Got laid off today along with 40 other people.

But it's all good, I've been there 4+ years, I'm ready to move on.

I plan to investigate what it takes to start up my own gig (game development), but I won't be saying no to salary jobs if I find one. Having said that, anyone in the tech industry know of any openings for which the following skillsets apply?
  • MS SQL Server (mastery, scripts, admin, schema design, interfacing via ADO, archiving)
  • ADO (mastery)
  • Visual Basic (mastery)
  • C/C++ (experienced)
  • COM object development (experienced)
  • 3-tier object development (experienced)
  • 6 total years of technical work experience
  • Serious development experience since '94
  • B.S. in Computer Science from UCI
  • And of course, what I hope are excellent communication skills.

Are they still paying 60-70k for this sort of stuff?

Wow Steve, your resume sounds just like mine. Just replace the C/C++ with ASP and basic MCSE/CCNA sysadmin stuff, we'd have identical resumes! While I'm still sortof employed, I might not be for much longer, so if you hear of anything, let me know!

Bummer Steve - it sucks not having a gig. I manage a team of developers but we are not adding anyone for the forseeable future. However, I do know a few people that might be. Are you looking for a DBA/developer role?

Our department is hiring a network admin but I don't think that's what you'd want. JZR, would you be interested? Let me know.

See ya Sunday.

Steve,

If you're interested in game development, then you might want to consider applying at Blizzard. They're currently looking for a UNIX admin. Details below:

http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/unix-admin.shtml

I know a couple of people who work at the company, so if I can help, let me know. Also, I believe EAP is looking to expand its staff to include some new coders. If you send me your resume, I can forward it to some influential people over there.

That's my area and I am very interested, Johnny. I work with Cisco products.

Sorry to hear that, bro. I have no connection for you at my work either... we're on a hiring freeze. If it'll help you get a job at Blizzard, you're welcome to play Warcraft III with us after work, though!
