my 04 does the same thing

3 bars then it jumps to nothing - i now use 3 bars as empty

I have put more that 11 gallons in many many times, more than 12 a handful of times. My record is when I was running out of gas (as mentioned in my earlier post) - 12.833 gallons. Before that fillup, depending on the angle of the road, sometimes I would have gas, sometimes the engine would stall and I was coasting.

My worst milage? 12.21mpg
My best Milage? 20.13mpg
My longest range? 230.4 miles

The best milage and longest range happened on this years PCH drive to Ventura.

Are we ALL (except Oatnet) just seeing about 10 gallons when we fill up?? Where is the 13 gallons we are supposed to have in our tanks??

Only thing I can think of is 0 bars=about 3 gallons left.....but some people are running out of gas at that point....and my car wouldn't start after I turned it off with 0 bars.....

Don't mean to beat a dead horse...just trying to find an answer.

 

i think this is common on 04+
my car does this too...

when it's on 3 bar it goes down quick, and when it comes to 1 bar gas light finally lights up, shortly after it goes down to 0 and then if i keep driving it goes back to 2 or 3 bars.
It's so wierd.....

Paula is the queen of press your luck with gas. One time when we were going out there were no bars and the gas pump light was on. I put 12.8 gallons into the tank. So I believe that the S does have a 13 gallon tank.

Perhaps the difference is in the tank venting. If the tank doesn't vent well the auto shut off of the pump could occur early. Can you get more gas in after the auto shut off of the pump? With my car if I try and put more than 5 cents worth in after the pump shuts off the gas is running down the fender.

I had this same issue, the dealership replaced the send unit under warranty Problem solved!
