Sorry to hear that. That's embarrassing. Glad it was just at a local drive-through though.

This seems to go contrary to what others have experienced in their 00-02s. It is very typical for these cars to go through the last quarter of the gas gauge quicker than the other 3/4ths. I believe it has to do with the shape of the tank. The part that is contrary is that even though the last 3 bars disappear quickly, there is usually still a gallon or two in the tank even after the last bar goes out.

I discovered this driving through Death Valley last spring (soon after I bought my S). I was driving from the south to the north. I thought I had more than enough gas, but of course once I dipped under a quarter, the bars seemed to evaporate with the heat! And to make matters worse, the further north I went the less populated the landscape was. I drove with no bars/fuel light on for about 35 miles (driving no more than 30 mph) before I finally came across a working gas station.

Wow, glad you got lucky!!

An unofficial poll: Have you ever seen 13.2 gallons go in at the pump? Manual says that is the capacity, but I never seem to get much more than 10....I have a Honda guy checking this out

Thanks!

Mike,

I've only pumped 12 gallons in there once! Even though I thought I was running on fumes.

I have noticed that if you are parked on a slope, the gauge reads differently. Also if you are driving at speed it'll show higher than it actually is.

Does the 04-05 fuel gauge have the last bar blacked out, like on the previous models? That way you show no bars when you atually still have one left.

What we really wanna know is....................how was the burger?

I've put close to 11 in on a number of occaisions. This was always after driving 10-20 miles with no bars showing..

Mike,

You have a response from woodwork in your other thread in the "Tell Honda" forum.

Just a side note...On my 02, I have never been able to put more than 11 gallons in my car. And thats after driving 15+ miles after the fuel lamp has come on. I now have 40k miles on my car.

This is just something I have always heard....it's not S-specific.

It is to keep any tank deposits (that can occur over time) out of the engine.
About keeping 1/4 tank in the car -
I don't know where the S's fuel pump is off hand, but back in the day we wanted to keep 1/4 tank to help cool the pump...
