samsung is really bad about updates. I was interested in the samsung until there were reports of never getting froyo on the phone. The nexus one comes stock with Froyo and is the phone the gets new software updates before all other android phones... another reason why i love the nexus

ooohhh.. and i dont need to keep 3 back up batteries in my pocket like the evo lol
i've got an evo. rooted. rom'd. kernel'd... no battery issues here.. don't get me wrong, it doesn't have the battery life like the good ol' flip phones but it's pretty damn decent for the type of phone it is..

lg is coming out with a dual core in Q1. i wasnt aware of 2.3 being out already... i will def. be going to xda to get a piece of the pie.

Anyways... like someone posted above... go to www.xda-developers.com and then go to captivate... honestly.. if i were you i would wait another week or two for others to test and tweak the 2.3 and go straight to that... no need to take baby steps 2 times.

It's not released for any phone before the Nexus One. Unless perhaps a phone is new and just hits the shelf like this week.

You don't Root and then put it on a foryo rom....

You put it on froyo and then root again. Often you must unroot just to install a new rom and then reroot again. I had to do this from 2.1 to 2.2

WRONG. You root so that you can access ROM Manager and have it install a Froyo ROM. Froyo ROM is already rooted.

Sorry Greg, just taking a page out of your book by correcting your MISINFORMED INFORMATION.

Also, 2.3 is already out for the Galaxy S and Nexus S, like I said. Nexus One owners can wait their turn.
But wait, will the 2.3 GB be fully operational IE- Tethering, ETc...? If I load on my Galaxy S?

From what I understand, Gingerbread on a Galaxy S is still in its alpha stages. So you won't get any functionality from it. Wait about a month and it'll be ready for mass consumption.

It's almost fully operational except for a few things. Wait for it to be smoothed out, should be a week or two. I think it lacks Wifi and a few other knick-knacks. Stick with 2.2 until now and you'll be very happy. Get Axura 2.5 for best results, it's the best ROM I've used thus far and I've tried 'em all.
