just recently got a parking ticket for no front plate.. its $25.. can I get this dismissed if I put plate back on?

dammit, first violation for no front.. last ticket I got was for speeding a while back and cop asked why I didn't have front plate and he said "just don't like the look"?.. and I just agreed and he let me off on that..
Way to bump an old thread! Atleaat you used the search function (: Parking violations can be contested in the local court, and online as well. You might as well get another plate and contest the citation. It's quite expensive to get new plates because they usually want new tags as well. Might just be time for that vanity plate you always wanted.

im in luck cause I have the front plate in my trunk.. thx for the info!

Actually, a replacement regular series plate is only $21 (see the table in the link below).
"Replacement license plate/s includes new stickers and a corresponding registration card. Separate fees for each item are not required."
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/fees/duplicate.htm

But, as you have stated, you *have* the plate -- you just didn't have it on the car. If the ticket has the box checked for correctable (read the entire ticket completely -- front and back), you will need to put the plate on in some fashion, get the ticket signed off at the local LE office, then go to the appropriate court with the fine and an administration fee (or mail it, preferably certified mail so you have a proof of mailing). Fine and fees are published online.

Do parking tickets usually have correctable or non on it? I don't see anything regarding that on the ticket. There is contesting violation info on the back of ticket though.

Varies based on who issued it. That's why you read the entire thing, front and back. Some I have received (and some I have seen others receive) have that on it. One that a friend got specifically had the NOT correctable box checked. Not 100% certain but I believe when this is checked you do not have the option to put the plate back on, get it signed off, and pay a lesser amount. Would have to look up what the options are in that case, if there are any besides pay it and take the lumps.

Short answer is you need to read the entire ticket as the first step.

I read the whole thing front and back.. it doesn't seem to have anything about being correctable or not.. I wonder if the violation code itself has anything to do with being correctable or not.. code is 5200 - Display of plates

The last time I got one which was issued from Parking Enforcement (over the years I've gotten them from parking enforcement, CHP, LAPD near LAX, and LA County Sheriff) that one didn't mention correctable or not so I put the tag on, took the car and ticket over to the nearest CHP office and asked them about it in person. They signed it off and I paid it at the clerk's office at the local courthouse. Somewhere on the ticket there must be info about where you can look up the fines and fees (perhaps lasuperiorcourt.org). I know I have found the list of amounts due online in the past.

I don't know about contesting it, but it seems to me that you can hardly claim not-guilty. However, *maybe* you can get the fine reduced by a judge. I have no idea... I am TOTALLY conjecturing regarding this last bit. You need to confirm directly with the source on this.

Just found something through googling the violation code.. It says the fine can be reduced to $10. But I'm going to try what you did to see if they write it off. Thx for all the info.

You misunderstand. I did not say they "wrote it off." I said the CHP signed off on my correction of the problem (that the plate was now on the vehicle at the time of the spot inspection at their offices). I STILL had to pay a fee, but less than what it would be if I didn't get it fixed. They do not ever simply "write off" anything, in my experience. No matter how you slice it, there is a fine of some amount for the infraction and then an administrative processing fee.

The last ticket I got for no plate (not the one from the parking enforcement people, but from LA County sheriff) cost me a total of $25, iirc. And that was because I got it fixed. Again, it is more if you don't fix it.
