Bert, when I was a pre-teen I used to pan for gold with my dad in the goldrush area streams, as we were travelling throughout the West treasure hunting (metal detectors and lots of research on bandits & bank robbers). It was fun, netting vials of small flakes, but I never accumulated enough to make it worth our time.

Way OT ... Did you ever hear about how the streets of Carson NV were once paved with silver? It was scrap tailings from some other mining operation (copper?). One day someone figured out the tailings were silver-loaded and everyone attacked the pavement with spoons!
