MarkS2K suggested that we try to get a group together (10 - 12 people tops) for an evening at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. I'm thinking August 31 is a good date as there are a couple of performers there that week I wanted to go see. And it would be nice to see 2, 3, 4, 5 S2Ks there for the valets to park! (Yes, they know how to start them! )
Any interest?
We'll probably arrive about 6:00 (traffic permitting!), catch a show or two, then eat at 9:00. After dinner, there's the Palace show (the big stage), then one or two others if you like. My goodness . . . you could be there till 1:00 am!
Dinner runs about $20 - 30 plus drinks, dress is formal (coats and ties for the gentlemen and eveningwear for the ladies), parking is $5, and the magic is thrown in for free!
Just remember that USC's opener is the next day so don't party too hard or too late.

The only way you can get in is to be a member of the Academy of Magical Arts, or to have a guest pass from a member. I've been a member for about 5 years.
There are three main show rooms: the Palace of Mystery, the Parlour of Prestidigitation, and the Close-up Gallery. The Palace is the big room: stage illusions and that sort of thing. The Parlour is smaller; you get more mentalism, comedy magic, and so on here. The Gallery is my favorite: close-up magic with cards, coins, cups and balls, etc. The performer's table is less than one foot from the audience.
Great food, excellent company, five different shows to see, and all for the price of dinner (around $20 - $30). Too cool!

There were 3 S2000s in attendance yesterday evening: mingster, socal28 and yours truly along with our three lovely ladies.
A very enjoyable time was had by all. Just ask them!
