They dont look under the car they use a mirror to see if the cat is still in place. Typically they just check under the hood for items without CARB #'s.

It will get a little louder, but not a that much.

I found an Invidia test pipe with gasket and cel fix for $40, is it worth it?

40.00 is worth it I paid 100.00 for mine

Khris - his name was Minboost. You gonna do it? What gears are you going with 4.44, 4.56, or 4.77????

Watch out for those checkpoints. I've seen them setup on Harvard in Irvine on a couple occassions.

Was it for emissions or sobriety?

I rarely see them, but I have seen them near John Wayne airport (on Sunflower/Main) santa ana/ costa mesa area and on Newland about a block or two from PCH. these were emissions testers they had the trailer with the emissions equipment on it

They had it setup early in the morning till about the early afternoon. I saw it going to work and again on the way back for lunch.

Not too recent. I think the last time I saw was last Oct. You'll know what's up if you were to drive nearby. They have an orange sign up saying survey blah blah blah....
