The 'government' we built is a house of cards, about to devolve into a NASTY civil war - and even if it wasn't it would turn out to be just as bad as the last government we put in power - namely Saddam's government.
Send in a strike team to take out Saddam? Great! No need to invade the place. No need to pretend they had something to do with 9/11.

We botched this so bad, the entire world is looking down on us.

You are right, the rich did not need the refunds, but they GOT THE MOST. And do NOT tell me they pay the most in taxes. They have plenty of shelters here and overseas.

Sorry to throw some facts into this debate, but....
Take a look at the data on who pays what in taxes. The top 25% of income earners pay 84% of the overall nation's tax burden. The top 10% pay 65% of the tax burden. No matter what loopholes exist, they still pay much more than their fair share. "We hold these truths to be self evident...that all men are created equal." Not under the federal tax code. I don't think it's fair that I pay a share equal to 30 lower income people. I don't get 30 times the federal or local government services.
The increased economic benefits that I derive from living in the US are in the largest part due to the hard work and education of myself and my parents, not because of the increased taxes I pay. Look at hard working immigrant families who focus on the education of their children as examples of the republican ideals. In one generation in the US, they are able to go from nothing to wealthy. Contrast that with the other type of immigrant who comes here simply to work in a low skilled job, never learn the language, and leave children to be a drain on government services. See these poor souls as victims of the Democratic ideal.
This is not propaganda, it's fact.

Democrats love to demonize wealth as some sort of selfish evil. Without an incentive to get rich and enjoy the spoils, the US economy would look something like the old Soviet Union's.

Ok, define rich. That is the problem. I will pay over $100K in taxes this year. Show me where these supposed refunds for the rich and tax shelters are at? Maybe for the mega-billionaires, but for the "working rich" I am getting hosed. I pay a DAMN lot more than the "poor" people in both actual dollars and in percentage.
I do not begrudge you getting some money back.
My point is that the people that need the most help still do not get it with this "wonderful" tax rebate plan, AND the poorer folks did NOT spend the rebate money and help "jump start" the economy as Bush predicted. They BANKED it because they NEED to.
