when the car is declared as totalled, the insurance company tries to find a buyer for the junk vehicle, like a salvage yard or a pick-a-part shop.

when the salvage yard makes an offer for the car (in this case $4386), you have the option to match that price and take ownership of your junk vehicle with a junk title.

after which, you have 2 options: either rebuild the car and get it inspected; after that's done you'll be issued a salvage title and you can register and drive the car again.

or you can part it out and try to make more money out of the investment. in this case, a lot of the parts can still be sold. the drivetrain looks intact, headlights, hood, seats, interior parts, tails.... those can easily get you more than the $4386 that you are about to invest in.

Well, depending on how you look at it, it could be a great starting point for a track car later on if you don't have the funds. Or, you could part it out just like everyone else is saying. Didn't think it could be at least 2 grand per side but that's not too bad.

Yeah, Dillon was saying the same thing if the frame was affected. Oh well, there's still the motor! So any ideas on how much those usually run?

I'd buy it back and fix it. Salvage S2k, but at least its yours. Doesn't look like it would cost that much to fix the rear suspension if you get used parts. Stock shocks are a dime a dozen, arms and rear subframe are available, etc.

I would also haggle the buy back down and try to buy it back for $3500-4000.

Update: I've been in the market for a GS 350 and I finally picked one up Monday night. I walked out feeling I got a mediocre deal. I don't think I got a steal but I also don't think I overpaid. After hours of negotiating the dealer wins because I just get tired and annoyed and felt like if I didn't succumb I would have to waste another day finding the car I want.

Tricks the car dealership tried to pull on me:
- Charge $350 for "document processing fee"
- Car only has one key (ya right!), second key = $300
- Ridiculously expensive extended warranty

I feel your pain. Wrecked my first S in 2005 on a rainy onramp (VTEC + bald tires + rain, I'm dumb) and bought another one which I've driven like a grandma since. Well, a grandma on crack, but...
