Cops and Ticket Quotas.... PROOF

So let me get this.straight:
- cops cherry pick motorists
- cops fleece motorists
- cops sue the city who took motorists' money
- cops get awarded all the money.
Huh?
Of course there's another way of looking at it:
- cops do their job and issue citations to speeding motorists (who broke the law and were caught)
- cops sue city
- cops are awarded all the money.
Makes zero sense no matter how you look at it.

^^only 2 cops (who were the ones who sued) were awarded settlement. Yes it’s weird that the cops were suing their own PD, but if you think about it, they are almost standing up for us, and doing what none of us could ever have hoped to win in court. Seems like a win for the general public. Hopefully PD will be more scrutinized on illegal quotas and maybe even stop altogether (*gasp*) in fear of more cops winning similar cases in the future. That’s my hope at least!

There's a reason quotas were made illegal.
To set a quota means there HAS to be X amount of violators. That's physically impossible to state with confidence. That is beyond corrupt.
Now certainly there's endless violations but what it comes down to is making the PD into a buisness instead of a public service as it's superposed to be. Cops should help you change a tire if you need, give directions and such. Instead you even look their direction they write you a ticket and cast fear among groups of drivers.

This is what I read as well.
These cops did the right thing, stood up to the illegal quotas, got put on shitty assignments and received bad performance reviews. They sued and won, and now the PD has been put on point regarding this.
I applaud these guys.

Look, I agree that quotas are a bad thing.
I agree that cops should not be motivated to issue tickets when a warning would suffice in their judgment.
But revenue is revenue, and the police dept will get it one way or another.
- Fewer tickets = higher penalties.
- Fewer tickets = More red light cameras.
- cops who are awarded $2m exacerbate the problem by taking money out of the Police Dept's budget...and do you really think the lawsuits will stop with these 2 cops?
Yes, I'm playing devil's advocate, but this is not (pardon the pun) a black + white issue.
I applaud the two officers for standing up for what's right...but it's not going to change the system.
