people in the show scene have complained that judging has become a matter of who you know and not so much on modifications and presentation.
This is huge and I have seen it first hand. It is about who you know or are affiliated with. Its politics in some shows. Its not fair but it will continue to happen. I have noticed a lot of the magazine featured cars tend to win as do popular teams.

Car shows have become a dime a dozen and they are all overpriced...

Also, as BC touched on, you need to re-evaluate your current target. Many of the people who were largely into the scene in the earlier years have grown out of it. Find out who your new target market it and cater to their needs... if it means neon lights, then sell them on neon lights...

my .02

oh... and it also might help to provide paper bags for all of the would be models...

Would you guys and gals go to a club, let's say the night before, to be able to interact with participants of the carshows? I.E. Models, Drivers, etc?? Maybe have a meet and greet with them to sign autographs and take pictures and such. Or even just be able to have a drink with them and talk??

This is an easy fix. Stop having so many damn shows. Hawaii has one major show a year and thats it. Then they went to two shows. If you guys stick to one show then its good to go. And above all have more money for the winners.
Too many car shows. Now a these days they're looking for excuses to do car shows. Quality > Quantity.

2. Better Car displays ( Cars all get screened)
This is key right here. Yes, diversity is great, but who the hell wants to see a Chevy Cavalier or Dodge Neon with Lambo doors

I'm too damn old for shows anyway Last one I went to was Import Showoff in summer of 1999.
