what kind of schooling do you have to do to become a nurse? i hear salary is pretty good, like ~60K+ right?
When my parents graduated and got their RN's in '93-'94, they started out making $65k-70k. You can make even more now, even as a new grad. Sign-on bonuses are usually pretty hefty and you can work anywhere. They even have traveling nurses that get free living quarters and work different assignments all over the US/world. Awesome job.

Where are all these engineering jobs you guys are talking about? I've been searching for a while now and I don't see the amount of opportunities you guys are talking about.
i've searched fields such as: manufacturing, machining, automotive, etc. and they all have tons of engineering posts.

Schooling for RN is hard. Lots of work and you can't coast through it or cheat. You actually have to learn your shit.

i've been looking at aerospace and its been dismal at best in socal. could be cuz i do pretty specialized/technical work and some places just dont have space/spending for it. there are a few but just not much around here.
i get a lot of calls and opportunities out of state but with my recent home purchase i cant really just bolt so i'm just focused here.

There are a lot of engineering jobs out there, but there are also a lot of engineers competing with you. My friend has been looking for one since February. He has 5 years experience in the pressure vessel field (oil refinery) and still cannot find anything.
He went to a lot of interviews though, so I am not sure if it is his problem. Either way, competition is high in the field even though there are a lot of openings.

I'm a recent grad so I've been looking at all engineering related jobs. I have a year of experience in manufacturing engineering so I've been leaning towards that since it should be easier to get a job related to that field.
As another has said, it seems like it is a bad time for aerospace engineers. Several recruiters have told me they noticed that the industry is cyclical and now is the down time.
I guess I should have been more clear with what i found when looking through the available jobs. It is a bad time for mechanical and aerospace engineers. Electrical, computer, and maybe even civil engineers are in demand. That's just my observation.
