Business name renewal scam?
RESOLVED! If you get a letter like this, do not pay. I talked to the landlord and we rang up the county office. They said "don't pay for it." you should get a letter from the state or county if you need to renew your business name. This thread can be closed now but I'm leaving everything for other people to see.
A few weeks ago I received a letter from Sacramento stating that I need to renew my business name but I just ignored it thinking it was one of many scams people tried getting me into. It says it is not affiliated with the government. They are asking for $150 and it was due by January 16th. I received a call today and the lady just said it's okay if it's late and tried to rush into paying them soon. (right there that seemed odd since something like them would probably charge us late fees). I googled this company with the sane address and people are saying different things, it's a scam/it isn't a scam. Should I contact the county recorder and ask about this? Or the landlord?

I got one of those last year. It's a business (sounds like a one guy place) that charges you to renew your name for you. I called them up and asked them why they are representing themselves as the county. Also why is he charging me $200 more. He said they charge an extra $200 for the "service" of making it easy and saving us time. Time? We mail a check in, how much easier can $200 bucks make it.
Call them up, give them hell.
