Default Building website question

Ok, I've been working on my website and now I can not get it to work. I can not get the first page to show up when you type in the domain name. I can get the individual pages to show up, but that's it.

For example. tshirts.com = not found. tshirts.com/large.htm = prefectly fine. It seems to be the first page that's not working. In the past I would name the first page "index" and it would work just fine. Is there a trick?

Is your root landing page titled "index.html"?

By root landing page, you mean my first page? If so, yes it's named Index. Yet still nothing.

OMG! I use to know all of this. What Dreamweaver version are you using?
Is it now currently running on the web? or are you just getting started at home?

It's the dreamweaver that comes with Adobe CS4.

The website was up and running, but I decided to make some changes since is was out of date. I made a new index page and uploaded it. It just won't show up. I can see my other pages.

Did you happen to change the name of the page? If you did you want to go back to all your pages that also link to your home page and make that change. Like you said, you changed the name so its not working and im pretty sure that is exactly why it isnt working. because the way you have it saved. When you test it on Dreamweaver does it function properly? Did you upload the correct page you saved? Maybe you updated the wrong file

Got it! it was the place holder. My hosting service changed something on their end. That caused my site to be off wack.

Thanks

Curious as to what host you're using.

Using Justhost here at work, hate em. They throw in ads in placeholders if you have dead links.

Using Gatorhost for my personal site. Incredible customer service from them

Yeah if they throw an index.php or index.htm as a placeholder, it can override your index.html. Those bastids and their placeholders!
