I don't want to quote Johnny Mac but "you can't be serious!"

Comparing Bonds to Aaron is absurd. Aaron did it with class. As for respecting Bonds' abilities, obviously he doesn't respect it enough to keep it real.

Yes Aaron did it with class but can you imagine how hard it was for him? I am talking about the media and the fans that hated him for doing it. I am talking about the ability for a player to even get close to something like this.

Absolutely. That's why I respect Aaron much more than Bonds. Aaron was getting death threats left and right (though Bonds also said he got some). During that time, there were a lot more racists than we have today and I couldn't imagine what Aaron went through. What I find disgusting is how Barry is linking all of the boos and focus to racism. That's just not true and he knows it. For example, if Griffey is doing this, I'd be rooting for him at my home park.

The fact that Aaron chose not to be present for all of this says it all.

I really don't care for Bonds, but I hope he doesn't break the record while playing my Dodgers.

Are you sure you don't work for ESPN? I am guessing the propaganda is working, at least you and the Giants/Barry fans are subscribing.
What now? In all I've read on ESPN leading up to this moment, their propaganda has not been pro-Barry whatsoever. If anything, it's been somewhat neutral, with the only interest (surprisingly ) in perhaps instigating more conspiracy and more arguments. That's what the media is good for, right?

[QUOTE=CalBear,Jul 31 2007, 12:23 PM]Who better than Barry to throw under the bus? Even if they are doing that (they are not), Barry deserves it.

Incidentally, I've also always wondered how I would feel about this entire HR race/fiasco if I wasn't a Giants fan.

I think the great thing about baseball fans is that for the most part, we are truly fans of THE GAME itself, not just the team. I'm curious how I'd view Mr. Bonds had he been playing for another team for all these years. I guess we'll never know.

But for now... my opinion can be found ^above^

No, but I've been subject to enough racism to tell when it is and whtn it's not. If Barry would quit having this "victim's mentality" maybe we can discuss why he's truely hated.

Fair enough.

My point was simply this: I'm not black, nor will I ever be, so I most likely cannot assume whether or not Bonds is the subject of genuine or imaginary racism. Nor would I expect anyone who also is not black to know...

Back to the subject at hand...
