That is assuming the money factor is the same. Someone's payment could be higher because the dealer marked up the money factor (common), bank fees, etc.. But you are on the money is there is no right or wrong, it depends on the situation. Sometimes a lease is a better "purchase" than a buy due to interest rates on the lease vs. finance.
Plus if you can write off your lease on taxes, that helps you even more.
You can depreciate a purchased car also

(why large companies always buy american cars as company cars. Right off the lot, its -10%)

So the deal I'm working on at Pacific (without Stephanie -- I had already contacted a salesman there before I knew about her) is this:

2009 328i LOADED

$44,700 sticker
$39,500 asking ($5200 off)

$38,000 negotiated sticker
[$2000] rebate from BMW

Lease would be $1500 down, $479/mo incl tax.
It still seems high to me, so I'll keep shopping around.
But that's my back-up car as it has EVERTYTHING.

Awesome. She's a nice lady.

Let me know if you have any questions or come down to the dealership, I might have time to leave work and swing by. I work ~1-2 miles away. It's pretty close to Fashion Island off PCH if you haven't been there before.

Just got jerked around at BevHills BMW.
Went in on Thursday to see a demo 328xi that was on sale for $34900.
Liked the car, made an appointment to come back today with my wife.

Went in today pretty much ready to buy, but when we got there the car had been MARKED UP $2000.

After 4 hours of 'negotiating' they:

1) refused to match the $34900 price. They said they made a mistake and that they couldn't honor that price. Fraud much?

2) refused to put in writing that they would cover any damage to my wife's current BMW. They pretty much guaranteed that we would get a bill from BMW for dings + dents, but refused to say for how much. SHADY!
They wouldn't even let me get the car pre-inspected for an estimate.
WHAT?!
I've been to 2 other dealerships who have both agreed to buy the car outright. One would cover any damage, the other would charge me $200 for damages...but BevHills expected me to sign on the dotted line and wait for the bill to come to see how much I owe.

No F'ing way. Not in this life.

I always think paying in full is the best way.. Anytime you finance you lose.....
(and yea a financed car is owned by the bank LOL)

Some even say if you have to finance it you can't afford it...
In my case, I didn't have $35 G's sitting around to pay for a new S2K, I was a first time buyer, and financing the S2K actually helped me start off on the right path to a good credit score. This is my first time using this quote, but I might as well use it:
Different strokes for different folks.
