In my humble sushi opinion (I eat a lot of sushi) the best sushi for your value is at a place called Tatsuki (spelling??) on Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills (East of Topanga Canyon) Great sushi and prices are amazing. (I.e. Rainbow roll $7.00) You can't even come close to that pricing.

Crazy fish is great as well, but for quality and quantity per dollar, I say Tatsuki all the way.

Try Sushi Mac in Sherman Oaks. I know 5 of the sushi chefs and the owner personally. They are all Japanese (this is a good sign). It's a hipper crowd and a fun atmosphere. It's only $2.50 a plate, and pretty good quality.

P.S. DO NOT EAT AT "SUSHI DAN" IN STUDIO CITY!

Hide Sushi on Sawtelle is good and pretty cheap. They only accept cash though.

Douglas - Man, you're parents owned a fish shop. PM me with your last name. I think our families might know eachother.
By the way, I'd love to eat sashimi everyday, especially if it's fresh. My unlce went deep sea fishing and caught a tuna. We ate it that night and it wsa the best sashimi I ever had. It melted in my mouth.

About a year ago, I went deep sea fishing with some friends in Mexico and we caught a ton of fish. We cut some fish up on the way back and ate it as sashimi. It was the best that I'd ever eaten. I could have sworn it was still moving! Now that's fresh!

It sounds to me that we have the basis for a government grant here: studying the economics of sushi consumption.

We'll have to patronize dozens (maybe hundreds) of restaurants, write evaluations, compute statistics, return to the restaurants to verify consistency . . . this could take months, and run several million dollars. I'm thinking an FDA grant here. Who wants to be on the research team?

Hahaha, great if all the sushi restaurants are safe to eat at but I don't have a stomach of steel for those few bad sushi places. You know, I don't want to have to pucker the butt cheeks to keep the crap from exploding out after eating some week old sashimi..
