I use Craftsman because my wife buys them for me.
i usually wait for the sales at kragen, only on the powerbuilt products though...
they got some cheapy stuff that isnt really dependable but for a steal theyve got powerbuilt tools on sale sometimes.
i dont know how often, check the newspaper adds.
i prefer craftsman, dad used to buy them for me but im all grown up now and i cant really afford the msrp on them unless theyre on sale.
oh and powerbuilt is ok, never had it break on me-but they have a lifetime warranty regardless and you can get the tools swapped out at kragen if it does break.
snap on is da bomb but i cant even afford a third of the stuff they sell.
im glad you posted this, it reminds me i gotta go check to see if they got some sales going on this weekend.

It's not the tools, it's how you use them. Old forklift mechanic "Pete" told me that.
Craftsman works great for the average guy, even for a Pro mechanic. But Pro's gotta have Pro equipment and tools or the other Pro's with point and laugh. Just like we point and laugh at Greg in the shower room.
If I was offered FREE tools of choice, I would probably pick Snap On.
Craftsman I think is the best bang for your buck. Use what your comfortable with.

Sears Craftsman FTW! The sweet spot of price, quality, and return policy. Their sale prices on GearWrenches (my fav open/box type) usually matches e-bay prices but you have to wait for each sale.
I'll admit to buying plenty of low-use stuff at Harbor Freight. If you know what you're buying you can avoid the junk and once in a blue moon they have something truly kick-@ss, like my 46" wide rolling tool chest and top box. Unbelievable quality for the price.
I've had good luck with Husky brand also (e.g. my two torque wrenches).
