But I really doubt MY04 will have a dead alternator just yet. Batteries only last about 2-4 years max
battery life can suffer if you live in hot areas.....like temple city lol

all my honda's warning light didn't go off until it's about to die, i wouldn't trust my life on it to be honest.
the charge warning light has always been accurate in all MY hondas.

btw, i think its foolish to test the alt by unplugging the negative terminal.

its just not a complete test. the voltage regulator could be blown and outputting over 16V. or still outputting 12V which will still run the car, but not the required 14.5V (yes, the charge warning light indicator will be on anyway).

the only real test is with a simple $5 voltmeter.

1.Fully Charge battery
2.Load Test Battery(CCA divided by 2 =load to test)for 15 seconds
3.Battery should hold at least 10 volts under load for 15 seconds.
If battery passes above test install on car.
Start car
Connect voltmeter. set to DC and proper scale(connect to battery leads)
Reading should be around 14 to 14.5
If voltage is lower check fuse
If fuse is good alternator is bad.

Note: any automotive battery after charging reads 15 volts or higher = junk battery.
hope this helps you.
