I am in a 2 month course, and I already know they get paid measley so and so dollars. I am also a real estate appraiser, I am doing this to supplement that work.
Thanks for the advice though.

i used to do home finance with chase manhattan and wow...you wouldn't believe what we were making couple year back...esp compare to what's happening now
10-13 sounds like the general rate for fresh EMT around LA, depends on the company and shift, etc.
good luck, at least you are helping people

Yeah ER EMT's do make more, what exactly do you do in the ER. If its general errand boy, than I'd rather be stuck in a rig.
I'm picking up my book today so I'll at least be ahead in the reading.

go army medic.. wooo best experience.. plus you get to do more shit..
anyhow, the er i work in we do just about everything the nurses do excep start i.v.s and give meds. we do all the ekgs, wound care, assist the doctors with proceedures, splinting, cleaning patients when they are soiled (worst part of the job) and stuff like that. we are also part of the trauma/code blue team. each hospital has different SOPs for emts. some let you do more than others. anyhow good luck-

in the ER you will use more stuff that you learn in class than the rig. In the rig you are limited to what you can do and in OC the only thing you can give to a patient is basically O2

one of my classmate is a EMT now, he was a lifeguard before.
i read thru half of the EMT manual and promptly vomitted.
make sure you know how much they pay before starting anything at a JC/CC, last time i check it's not that much for the amount of work.
my other female friend just finish her nursing degree in CSULB and she's making about 3 times as much as a regular EMT right off the bat, but that's a four year+ nursing program with a bunch of school "Stuff"
good luck
