I had a roommate that had one that filtered the air through water... that seemed to work really well. I noticed immediately that the air seemed a lot cleaner and less stuffy in the place

Huh. I use BC's model. I also like the white noise at night to cover odd neighborhood noises.

I use the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze seems to work wonders. Smells great and gets really dirty within a 2-3 weeks. Cleaning it makes me enjoy having it because i see all the black crap that is stuck to the interior panels.

don't use the de-ionizer as it's suppose to send positively charged ions in the air to grab on the negative ones so bring them to the floor to be vacuumed later on. or something like that. the problem is that you can inhale those positively charged ions which will pose a a health hazard later on.

peta is right -- http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008...rper_image.html

Same complaint was levelled against the Living Air ionic units. I borrowed one from a cousin. It did make the house smell slightly better but the price was absurd... then the safety issue was raised.

Read consumer reports on "Sharper" image and other electro units.

(Its a really old report you can pull online).

Thats why I went with a Hepa, and all the medical groups endorses it.
