You heard wrong.

The vehicle code says that any child under 1, under 20 pounds or riding in a rear facing car seat may never ride in the front seat if the car has an active airbag. A child under 6 or under 60 pounds may ride in the front seat if they are in a car seat and one of the following is true:

- no rear seat.
- rear seats are side or rear facing.
- child seat can't be installed in the rear seats.
- all rear seats already occupied by kids under 12.
- some medical reason that they can't ride in back.

Safety for all seats have recommended ages, however, they usually are pertaining to weight and height due to the impact of airbags

there's and error, it is stated in the vehicle code that a child 6 years of age AND 60+ may ride in a vehicle using normal seat belts. I really dont believe there would be an exception when children's lives are at stake in the case of an accident.

and secondly a child in a child seat may never ride in the front seat (with or without active airbags), always in the back and facing the rear.

there is always a confusion with this law, and everyone decides its kew to make up their own. and did you know that if you get into an accident where a child seat was present, the insurance company is required to replace it with a new one.

My sons are 8 & 6 and both have ridden in the Honda or the Miata I had since they were born. Heck the Miata was a track car that had barely enough street stuff on it to make it legal. The nurse at Hoag almost popped her ovaries when the oldest rode home in it. She had never seen a kids seat in a car with a full SCCA rollbar. She called us at the house to make sure the time bomb I drove him home in got us to the house safely.

I had both airbags go off in the Honda ( I was the driving alone). The F'en bags are a PITA. For the next 24 hours all you taste is the powder they pack them in. Geez how did people survive before the airbag? That and anti-lock brakes are just another product brought to us because automakers cater to f_cktards who can't modulate a pedal to save their lives. Safety Nazis everywhere it seems.

My boys have been driving /racing their karts since they were each 4 years old. Even some of the wifes PITA friends think that the kart racing is a little more dangerous than some stupid balloon in the car.

I do. I have a recaro car seat. I've not had a problem. I wouldn't put a rear facing in though. It's legal in a 2 seater.
