I have friends who have a Yukon. It's great for long trips. 6 people for 10 hours is no problem. But most of the time it's being driven by just the mom with 1 or 2 kids. She's always complaining about the milage, and how hard it is to manuever around parking lots. She'd love to have something smaller as a daily driver.

I drive an Xterra 4x4, I don't recommend it unless you like to actually off road through trails.
I've owned other American V8's and have a GM dually diesel at the moment. I like the Tahoe's, they have good power, roomy, and look good. I'm thinking about getting one later. not the new one, the 01-06 model 4x4.
I had a 92 GMC 4x4 pickup, it was the best truck I've ever owned. reliable, ok offroad (loved mud), nice V8, decent power, not too smooth and not too rough. MPG was 12-13 city and 15-16 hwy.
I would say go for it, just drive it responsibly.

Just get a Titan or an Armada .... those things have mad leg room.
I have a Titan LE and had 5 people in it, the 3 passangers in the back were at least 5'8" - 6', no complaints with comfort on the drive to Big Bear. Has all the power you need, cargo space, towing capacity (tow the S to the track), luxury features, and all the bells and whistles.
Hope this helps.

Having to choose between nissan and toyota I would take toyota (keep in mind I have an Xterra). Toyota is smooter, quieter and have all around better build quality vs the Nissan.
I think the tahoe is still nicer. The tahoe is supposed to get the best mpg out all the SUV's in it's class. I don't know if that's true or not.
If I was in your position I would get the Tahoe or wait for the new toyota sequoia.
