Look in the under the hood forum, commonly asked questions. Xviper has fantastic write-ups on everything from oil change, differential fluid change, transmission fluid change, coolant flush, clutch fluid change, to CAI installs. With his instructions I learned how to change my diff fluid, tranny fluid, and flush my coolant. I already knew how to oil change. You just need the right tools and enough tools to fix what you screw up.

hi

can somebody local help me with changing my own oil? i want to do most or all the work but just want someone to help me out just incase, since it'll be my first time... i dont' care how easy it is to do by yourself w/instructions. preferrably someone with all the necessary tools. i only have a funnel and ratchet, plus the oil.

my garage or yours

I just changed my oil recently and found out that it's quite easy to do. It took me 20 minutes max and didn't even have to jack up the car. I just slipped a low profile oil bucket under the oil plug and drained the oil out. Always use a crush washer when replacing the oil drain plug. You then unscrew the the oil filter and replace it with a new one, preferebly mobil 1 extra large filter. Always check if your old oil filter has its gasket. If the gasket is not there, then it must still be attached at the engine and must be removed. Make sure you lube your new oil filter's gasket with oil. Finally fill your engine with 5.1 quarts of 10-30 of oil (amount stated on manual). As long as your car is stock height, no jacking is required. Don't forget to save your old oil and recycle it by giving it your local car shop.

You must be one skinny guy, becasue there is no way I can fit under the car. My head won't even clear the front bumper!!!

Jane - I can show you how to change your own oil, but I live pretty far away. A better bet might be to ask Prolene. He's extremely helpful. He helped me change my tranny oil. He's in Hacienda Heights, so a bit closer to you than Torrance.
