Fry's electronics has a pair of Cyber Acoustics with sub for $30 and it says 1 per household for a certain time period. found those on amazon for 38 so not such a great deal.. any speakers that can do a really good job without sub or do i absolutely need the sub since the speakers are so small

I would recommend you spend another $25 and get these JBLs.

You won't be sorry.

(keep the sub on the floor, obv)

I would save up some money and get some better computer speakers. Those are all terrible. I have the Blue Sky Mediadesk 2.1 speakers and I would never go back.

nice.. but $800 is out of my budget.. are those even pc speakers? im using M-Audio BX8a speakers currently and they are not considered PC speakers (although you can use them as pc speakers).

Those are them.

800 is a lot but they are the best that I could find under 1000.

You should just stick with your M-Audio's. If you get cheap computer speakers you will regret them every time you try to listen to music.

I personally like the sound of Yamaha's speakers because they sound the most natural to me, without harshness.

Sound is really subjective. Some people like the form factor and the boominess of Bose and others appreciate real audio.

First, what kind of music do you like? Do you want a lot of base? Surround? Just music and video games, or what purposes are you going to use it for?

Also, budget is REALLY an important question here.
