Thumbs down Air purifiers - Which one?!

Sup everyone,

I was just wondering if any of you have any experiences with some of today's Air Purifiers. I'm looking to purchase one for my room, and am faced with many different choices. I use to have a HEPA air filter in my room for allergies, but it was really loud. Loudness isn't a HUGE factor, I'm more concerned about effectiveness rather than noise level.

Mainly getting it to help reduce the dust in my room. I don't know if it is JUST Irvine, but it gets really dusty in a matter of weeks. I want to get something to help with this issue.

If any of you can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

HEPA all the way... Ionic purifiers are hazardous to your health from what I've heard (something about them releasing ozone), and they don't MOVE the air at all, they just attract whatever's in the immediate area. Not a very effective system if you ask me... you can't clean the air without moving the air...

spot on - recent article points out that some ionic purifiers put out enough ozone that it's equivalent to a smog 2 alert. HEPA!

i have both.

ionic pro and holmes hepa purifier.

hepa is hella loud, where ionic you won't hear a sound.
hepa filter costs much as buying a new unit, ionic doesn't require changing filter.
hepa tends to vacumm air at higher pressure, due to fan type.

in the long run ionic costsless, but ineffective compare to hepa.
hepa is more effective than ionic, but they can be very costly.

ionic pro $150, no filter require
hepa vertical $60 to $80. 2 $30 filter = $60 to $70
hepa medium $100 to $200. 2 to 4 $40 filter = $80 to $160

btw, filters needs to be changed every 3 to 6 month.

i just got the bionaire hepa filter from costco, i think mine is broke!!! air only comes out from one side and it goes sideways. i will return it for a new one though cuz i like it. i also got the sharper image one, but it's kinda lame, nice and quiet, but i don't think it is that effective.

Do any of you have any specific models in mind? The systems I've seen are quite expensive... ranging from $150-1500.

A mediocre HEPA system would be effective enough for my room

and size.

also, a location... do you often open your window? is it dustly area? how is the air circulation.

how much are you looking to spend?

I noticed a lot of the newer hepa filters have a permanent washable filter. Hepa is the way to go in that case. I will be picking up one from Costco. I hope I can dust less....currently I dust once a month
