Looking for opinions.....
When choosing a set of rims, which would what size (17" or 18") would you prefer and why.
I have an AP2, so it came with 17's.
If I changed rims, and kept them 17's, I could use the stock S02's, which I like.
If I go to 18's, I got to get something else.
Is there a better choice of STREET tires for the 17's then the 18's?
Is there a better choice of RACE tires for the 17's vs the 18's?
Which size is prefered by the folks who track their cars? Does gearing come in to consideration?
Inquiring minds want to know.....
TIA

Question is, what is your intended goal? As for your questions about better choices in terms of wheel size and tire options, it's a bit vague because what is more important to me may be less important to you.
As far as my personal experience, I have an AP1 with 18" Volk CE28N. IF you're considering 18's, I would HIGHLY recommend these wheels if weight is your concern. I have a stiffer suspension and lowered by ~3/4" but have never had any rubbing issues.
I'm running Toyo T1S tires (don't have the exact specs in front of me at the moment) but with this wheel and tire combo, each corner is about 2 lbs lighter than my OEM 16" AP1 wheels & S02 bridgestones if I remember correctly!
So when people tell you about weight, it's not always true but in general, it is something you will need to watch out for concerning other brands. If you do go with racing slicks, you'll probably want a wheel that has better offsets than the volks but if you're just running street tires, you can probably get away with 245/255 rears and 205-225 in the fronts without much, if any, issues at stock height.
areas of compromise:
-comfort vs performance
-cost
-road noise
-tire size options & availability
-weight & durability (if you go with a bling wheel)
Pick which ones are the most important to you and do your homework on the wheel/tire set you choose.
As far as gearing goes, the answer depends on which wheel you finally end up choosing. Since you have an AP2, you'll probably not notice as much especially if you stay really close to parameters of the OEM wheel but if they are heavy wheels and you're running much wider tires, then it'll become a little bit more noticeable.
If I were to get 18s again though, I'd still pick the same wheels. Very strong...very light.

the question is are you evena good enough driver to make up the difference?
my suggestion if you want better looks get the bigger wheels your not a pro drive you wont be able to make up the difference in performance you will get between 17 and 18's
