Default One reason to wait for OBD port smog in Cali

Once California transitions to OBD port testing this seems like a viable swap.

Why does OBD port testing make that more viable than it was before?

Like other states all they do is plug in and read the OBD readings. No dyno and, less time, and supposed to be cheaper

Maybe I'm a little slow ... but I still don't see why this is more advantageous than the dyno as far as making a swap viable. Learn me something.

All the OBD port testing does is test for readiness codes. No dyno hence no actual emission readings. Basically if they plug in and scan says all cool you pass smog. Ya feel me?

OIC. Makes the smog test sound far less strict. I'll believe it when I see it.

There are pilot programs out already in socal from what I have read. It's supposed to be implemented around 2013. Of course non OBD2 cars will still have to do dynos.

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/misc/faq/f...#SystemsChecked

This is an example how other states do their OBD testing. This should answer most of your questions.
