Default Nitto NT05 - New Street Class Contender!

Nitto NT05

What do you guys think? Looks like a mean street tire! Knowing first hand the NT-01s performance I would have high hopes for the new design.

Add this to the list of great ST tires: Z1, RE01r, XS, R1R, Neova, and soon to come out RE11. Love street tire class for its diversity, but damm it sure is a big mess to go through every year

An interesting note.....

Toyo R1R does not meet the minimum requirements for the the Street Class for SLB and TA due to its treadwear rating. This year almost all of the cars running in the street class were on Dunlap Z1s. In fact mulpile records were set on these tires.
Not sure what the treadwear of the new NT05 is but I have a feeling that because Nitto is a subsidiary company of Toyo Tires these tires will have the same compound as the Toyo R1R. Example being that the Nitto NT-01 and Toyo R888 share the same compound but the R888 is a much older tread design but has a noticeably stiffer sidewall (or so I hear....need to test it out for myself...not sure why the construction would be different though). From what I understand the R1R's sidewall is rather soft (as is the Z1) in comparison the the RE01R. The real question is will the NT05 have a stiffer sidewall and the grip levels of the R1R Its not hard to imagine that if these two companies share compounds and construction techniques....this could be the ultimate street class tire (if it can be called that).

The new tread design looks like it has the largest solid tread sections of any tire on the market. These larger solid tread blocks (especially the center) will give the tire incredible grip under breaking. The shoulders also look like they have the absolute min in water dispersion groves (looks like the inner section is again a solid block with a tiny grove that will wear smooth in a short time only leaving the outer most groves).

Maxrev, our resident S2000 record smasher had the opportunity to work with Nitto and test the tires out and provide feedback. Check his site at the link to see some more awesome driving and get the scoop.

You guys should know all these tires so I wont list them.

thought I would provide another "contender"

The NT05 seems promising, but time and tests will tell.

I hate to say this but I think they have become outdated in todays market. The Falken Azenis RT-615 are a great tire and just right when considering the price but they do not hold a candle to the newest breed of high performance street tires.
Track junkies have almost completely phased them out of their tire of choice.

The Azenis are great day to day street tires, but nothing compared to the tires that are show above... I use to be a fan of the old Azenis, but not these new ones... I have seen them in action and not very impressed...

I have ran RE-01Rs and currently on the Dunlop StarSpec tires and these, I personally think, are way better than the Azenis.

The new Nittos look promising and I have seen their commercial for the tires... looks to be a contender....
