Default DMV question

Hey guys, I just bought a car for $3000. I didn't notice, but the registration just expired JAN 2010. I need to renew it and transfer the title into my name. The question is, how much is registration usually? I noticed on the pink slip it was like $1800. WTF...was that registration for when the car was first purchased? How is it determined now? I don't even know if it's late..stupid ass car owner...

depending on the year the car registration is based on "value" of the car. Not sure what you bought but whatever is entered under "purchase" price on the back is used to calculate the fees. If it's a fairly new car if the price on that line is way off they may give you a hard time. What is posted on the front should be the "initail" reg fee when the car was purchased off the lot.

Now you have to pay penalties and other stupid fees. Good luck.

Call DMV tomorrow and say you plan to purchase "your car" and give hte plate number. They should tell you wassup.

There is also a rough calculator on the DMV website. Search for it and you can get a close guesstimate.
