xferring ownership of track-only car
I'm curious if any of you could give me some input on how to transfer ownership of a track-only vehicle that probably won't pass smog?
I've got an '89 CRX that hasn't been registered in a few years (paid the PNO dues... not sure why the #### the DMV needs to bill me for a car that isn't driven). It was broken into, stereo stolen, window broken... wasn't worth the time and effort to fix and sell.
I've had a few parties interested in it, but from what I could find on the DMV website, to transfer title it needs to be smogged... and it just isn't worth the effort for me, as I'm pretty sure it won't pass, and I'd have to get it registered to even drive it to the smog place.
I know they're popular as track cars, but I can't find a single thing on how to sell it as a track-only car and release all liability from myself. The closest I could find is perhaps giving it a salvage title, as if it is damaged beyond repair (which it absolutely is NOT).
Any insight? Thanks!

Bear in mind that title and registration are two different things.
You can transfer title/ownership to anyone. Registration is required to drive the vehicle on the road.
1. Sign the title over to the buyer. Make a photocopy.
2. Fill out and submit a Notice of Release of Liability. You can do fill this out on paper or submit the NRL online. This protects you in case the buyer decides to leave the car somewhere and gets towed or something stupid.
Have you gone to the DMV to ask? If you have AAA, go to a AAA office with DMV services....

I'm not too sure if what you guys stated is true, because I don't see it on the following pages, unless they chose not to publish that nuance so that people would try to take advantage of it.
