to be honest. a prius is a good idea. but... and this is a big but. the battery in that car lasts for 8yrs. after that. you need to replace it. and you really don't want to know how much a battery is. last I heard it was 20k-30k

every prius owner that comes to my shop said that the salesman said as a warning that the battery is that much to replace.

you know charlie. my 92 civic is my dd. and it only cost me 3k for it. on top of that. gas is cheap. maintanance is cheap. everything is cheap. the car is so cheap I couldn't ask for anything more.

240 ftw! i had one ... reliable as hell. MR2 is cool, but you need a shop to do everything since its mid engine.

No way.... 20K-30K for battery?? I think the salesman was smoking cra$$... my cousin has a Insight and last he checked, the battery is about 2k. Just did a quick search, for Toyota is under 10k.. I guess it's still a lot..

The battery warranty on the Prius is 10yr/150,000 miles. Battery replacement cost is like ~$2500, but used ones from wrecked Prius can be had for less than $1000. I guess there are some taxi cab fleets out there that use then and have reported 240k miles with no battery failures yet. There is a dedicated computer just for the batteries to keep them in optimal working condition and to protect the batteries from being fully drained.
