Default Where to get a CEL read?

Got me a beautiful Check Engine Light yesterday. Anyone know of a place in the South Bay where I can get it read for free or close to free? Thanks, yo.

Thanks for the tip! I'll call around to see if I can find a friendly AutoZone. Where are you located?

Not anymore, it's a policy not to do it for free... instead they "loan you" the scan tool for i think $100 or so, and you have it for as long as you need it, I believe up to a month. Then when you return it, they give you your money back. It's more of a deposit in case you don't return the scan tool. Well, technically it's free but you have to do it and it's more of a hassle with this stupid deposit crap.

Thanks for the suggestions and help, guys. Fortunately it was a false alarm this time. The CEL was on because of a loose fuel cap, since my car has the "deformed filler neck" issue which requires the fuel cap be tightened in a certain way. It's happened in the past, but this time around, it just took the CEL a few extra driving cycles to go away.

Thanks a lot to all who answered.
