same here. i've been using M helmets. i find it to be more cost effective to use the same helmet for both motorcycles and cars. i ride more than i ever take the car to the track

what track events actually require the SA helmet?
I probably wont be doing any/many days at laguna seca or infinion, primarily looking for autocross and events like that? do any of the smaller things require sa? maybe I am just wasting my time looking for the SA if virtually everything i do will only require M.

What is the difference between the two? Wouldn't a DOT / Snell rated Motorcycle helmet work for pretty much any activity?

what activity requires which, i dont know and that's what i asked.
however, i know that SA include fire retardant liner and are tested hitting against curved surfaces instead of flat. I also think that M helmets are only tested for 1 major impact and SA are tested for many (although this seams kind of weird, a motorcycle rider can hit the ground really hard and then slide into a wall really hard so you would think it needs to withstand multiple impacts as well, but it makes sense that a SA would require multiple impacts for rollovers)

I don't know of any HPDE group that requires a SA helmet. A M helmet should suffice for anything but full on W2W racing.
One difference is the anvil test. M helmets have to pass 3 different anvil shapes. SA must past a 4th one.
