Default wheel stagger question

So I'm curious about something...

If I have staggered tires should I be running staggered wheels too? Is there a difference between say running 17x8's all around and 17x8F and 17x9R? It would seem to me all that matters is tire stagger but I'm a noob.

Thanks

I personally would prefer 17x9 all around vs 17x8 but I guess it depends on your tires of choice.
What size tires are you planning on running?

You can stagger tires and have nonstaggered rims if you want to. I personally prefer non-staggered rims+tires, but that's just me.

I've got the oem stagger, 215/245 . I was just using a random number as an example. I see a lot of posts about "yea those wheels would be ok, too bad their not staggered". Kinda made me scratch my head since it didn't seem to make sense to me

I have sumitomo hrtz III's on right now (and love them).

The oem stagger will be doable. A lot of the time, the whole stagger/non-staggered debate is because some people preach "if it came like that from the factory, why change it" yada yada. I've run staggered tires (1 track event, but only for a couple months on the street) and it drove fine.

Depends on your application (street or track)... the purpose of staggered width is traction. They made almost all rwd cars staggered and have less bite in the front to avoid oversteer. When you increase width up front, you are increasing front bite, hence oversteer.

i run 18x11 (285s) all around, but i like the quick rotation

You can run staggered tires on non-staggered wheels. I plan on doing that very soon.

I was actually planning on doing 17x8's because that's the universal number that fits on oem tire sizes. Although I suppose if I find wheels I like at 17x8/17x9 I would be happy. Just wanted to clear it up before I make a jump in the wrong direction

Well I was running 17x9 X 4 with 245s up front and 275s in the rear. I'l probably go back to something similar to that once I have my new tires.
