if a cop wants to..he can still pull you over for it. not supposed to have any..still illegal
Yep yep, if you read the law, NO tint on side windows and windshield EXCEPT for up to ONE (maybe two) inch of that blue coat that helps keep out sunlight.

What if the car came tinted when purchase from dealer?
If a dealer sold you a car with front windows tinted you usually can get them to pay for the ticket.

I got pulled over in the middle of highway 5 for tint on my prelude... I've decided it's not worth the hassle on my S... I just don't have the cash to chance losing it

35% all around, and this was right off of 280 exiting 11th st. Damn pigs were hiding behind a tree pulling ppl over for turning at the light on red.

I didn't make any moving violations and as I passed him he jumped in front of my car. F***'in A$$!

from what I understand...

in California it's illegal to have any on your front doors and front windshield...

so... putting anything that's not clear could get you a ticket
You are 100% correct sir John

Any tint on front window "can" get you a ticket if you are unlucky or cop is in bad mood. Does NOT MATTER if tint came from dealer or not since the car was obviously a used car thus it's your responsibility after you buy it.

That is why SUV's come with dark tint on rear windows but NO tint on two front windows from factory.

If you have light tint you can "usually" get away with it but if you have that drug-dealer type dark tint, then you are just asking for trouble and eventually you will get caught. Does not help that our car's have cloth tops that do not let any light into the car.

So my advice is if you must have tint, learn to drive "Top down" or keep your windows rolled down...haha (I remember doing this in middle of Indiana winter's just to avoid the cops problem around campus and blast the heat)

btw I have 22% tint all around but it's the cool silver reflective tint on all my cars. Can't stand black tint myself....
