recommend you eat at sundance steak house... and plenty of good places at university ave... since school started, you might see some stanford hotties around too!
if you're a mall person, can visit stanford mall. but a mall is a mall is a mall.
take caltrains to sf to embarcadero. there's a stop right at the end of university by el camino. take the bus to go to union square. better shopping experience for tourists there.
