ok..so i'll have to add a bit of perspective here....my office window faces alpine road in ladera..just west of 280....so a normal day may [and often does] include more boxsters and carreras than most dealerships have on their lots..a bunch of ferraris[ mostly 360's.but an occasional 275 gtb or gts] ..one or two cobras a week..[one is a 289 bought new by the owner] countachs ,diablos and an occasional miura...astons and even a tatty m1.....of course the best is when mr littlefield [who also lives up the street] has one or two lowboy trailer rigs with a pair of ww2 german tiger tanks on them....come to think of it, we should have a car watching lunch in the parking lot up here....there's a good deli and a fair thai place next door...oh by the way, the s2000's seem to be the nannies cars.
btw; the above is just the weekdays.....on weekends you add the superbikes and the tour de france wannabes

I still don't see that many S2000's in the South Bay area... in fact, I still get all excited when I see another one drive by.... I'd say I'd see maybe 2 a week at best...

At least it not as bad as: 1) Civics 2) Integras 3) Stangs 4) Celicas 5) BMW 3 series (not M3) etc. etc. These cars are EVERYWHERE. At least where I live, I see more Boxters and that one Mercedes convertible than S2000 .

I saw 7 Boxsters on the 3 mile drive into work. While there are maybe 9 S2000's here at Microsoft, believe you me... Its still a rare car. Within my immidiate work team, there are 7 M3's, 4 Boxsters, 5 Z3's, an NSX, one F355, 3 C5's, a 993, a bazzilion 911's, the occasional Austin and 3 Miatas to one S2000. I think I am parked in between the NSX and one of the C5's today. Yesterday it was two silver Z3 3.0's.
At least that is my daily perspective.

When I bought my Prelude early 98, my mentality was the same. (Yes, I know a Prelude is not nearly an S2K.) At the time, almost nobody had Preludes. Integras, Civics, and Accords were the popular dogs. With the birth of the 2DR Accord V6 w/ the NSX styled rear lights, the Honda buyers flocked to that rather than the Prelude's 5 extra HP in the 1999 model. I was so happy that the Prelude would still be rare sight to see on the road. However, by mid 2000, guys, girls, moms, dads, grandmothers, and grandfathers had Preludes. It was ridiculous. I saw a 60something year old woman that was bringing the Prelude to shame. She could barely see out the window, and she was all over the road.
Lesson to be learned? Now that the S2000 is going for MSRP, the scarcity of it's presence on the road is reducing. Unfortunately, that could very well mean the value as well

I still don't see a lot in my travels from Livermore to Concord. But I do agree the looks and questions are much more rare. I do not, however miss the single most irritating comment from (female) bystanders..
"...ooooooh, it's so CUTE!!!"
