Default Weird rear leak

Today I backed out of my garage and noticed some oil on the ground. It was towards the back of my car, so I freaked out and looked at the diff. Diff was completely dry and didn't have any oil streaks on it; So then I assumed it was my shock that was blown. Checked, and it was dry as well. I even ripped apart my trunk to see if there was any fluid pooling on top of the tower and there was nothing there.

Upon further inspection I noticed it might be coming from a round rubber boot looking thing or something above it (not the axle boot though)

Does anyone know what the hell that thing is? What's it for? Why is fluid leaking out of it? What kind of fluid is leaking out of it? Am I in any immediate danger?

The only danger right now is diff oil all over your driveway. Or worse, the oil causes you to spin out

Holy moly

What exactly do you mean by diff oil? You mean the fluid is coming from the differential itself? Am I screwed? Can I still drive the thing? for how long? This looks very costly.

Depending on how long it has been leaking, if you wait too long, the diff will over heat and then...

It's been leaking for no more than 2 days.

I don't understand how this works though, if it's just the diff mount, how is fluid coming out of the differential itself?

I talked to Billman, he said those things are liquid filled. It isn't oil from the diff itself. I found the parts for cheap, not sure how much the labor is gonna be though.
