FINALLY. someone else who posted up regarding this annoying noise.

it makes me sad whenever i hear my car start with this

i remember voodoo saying something along the lines of taking it off and "rebuild" the starter, but it will eventually happen again unless replaced. :/

I've had that same exact sharp, loud, scratchy, metal-grinding noise...once in a while when I start-up the car, especially on cold days it happens more often and it's been happening for almost 5 years but my car runs pefectly fine and is always religiously maintained. I was told from different mechanics it is the 'starter' and I should just keep driving until I really need to replaced. *shrugs* I'll just keep driving my S2000 until I can't start the car anymore but nothing is happening.

It's a common noise among many S2000 owners. I'm still waiting to see when my starter will stop working, it won't be a long while though.

Its reassuring to know you have 5 years of this under your belt, as I'm only on the 2 year mark. My mom never heard it when she owned the S. But she doesn't start the car as aggressively as me, lol!

Sometimes...I won't hear it at all for like 6 months. Then I'll hear it like 5-6 times a day for a week, then nothing for like 3 months. It's so random. It was doing that scratchy metal noise last week for a couple days but this whole week nothing. I'm not worried, it's a normal thing for many of us...

well it isn't THAAAT hard to replace lol... https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/index.php...f=133&t=356924

If it hurts to hear, just go ahead and replace it on the weekend. I would say 2 hours of real work involved, 4-6 if you take your time crawling around.
