Van tire exploded all over my car...
So driving southbound on 680 today and a white Ford E350 van's rear tire EXPLODED and flew threw the air and slashed up my front bumper/ my hood/ my windshield and passenger side mirror. Guy took off so I chased him fora while. After 15 min of this he finally pulled over. I was able to get a highway patrol officer to come to the scene and take down info etc. and give me a police report stating that the object was airborn and not stationary when it hit me. The officer then starts to say "thank god the soft top is okay. S2000 rag tops are expensive. I got mine done a few years ago and already its bad."
Pretty cool guy. Seemed to sympathize with my freshly slapped S2K.
Any one know of a good shop that will help me out? I'm considering taking this time to have my emblems shaved and maybe even upgrading hood etc. Thoughts?

Jesus! Good thing you are ok. I had to avoid a giant bouncing tire on 101S in Mountain View just a few weeks ago. Watching the cars in front of me part like Moses and the Red Sea was awe inspiring, until I realized the tire was headed straight for me. Luckily, I avoided the tire but just barely.

It was pretty damn funny looking back at it. Considering I had a tire on my car for the first few minutes while doing it. He had retreads so he could still drive actually when it blew.

now this I would have liked to see. An s2000 chasing a van with a blown rear tire. Reminds me of the OJ chase.

Thanks. So my agent says They will wave the deductible as long as the other insurance company accepts responsibility for the accident. I'm a bit skeptical about this but I do have the police report stating the object was in the air when it hit me. I guess I'll find out in a couple of days?

With an official police report; I think that should be good enough for a valid type of proof for your insurance company. Good thing you didnt get hurt or others as well & nice turn of events from something that couldve easily went south!
I would see how much the insurance company could cut you a check on & take your options from there.
